2021 LWML Humorous Interrupter — Abby Goehring
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer (Romans 12:12) is Abby’s favorite Bible verse. She believes it “reminds us to have an optimistic look towards the future, and when things are not going our way, that we must be patient, for God has us, and throughout everything, we need to always make time to talk to God.” Combine an optimistic attitude and a sense of humor, and you have the makings of a humorous interrupter for the LWML.
Abby made her debut as a humorous interrupter at the 2018 LWML Texas District Convention. She’s been a life-long Lutheran and has served her district in several positions but loves working with young women. Abby was going to LWML events long before she knew what they were since her mother took her along to every meeting or quilting session. As she grew older, she learned to treasure the sisterhood of the LWML women. She is excited about working with Jan Struck and bringing a smile and hopefully a laugh to everyone in Lexington. The latest installment of LWML Leader Chats features Abby Goehring. Get to know her better — check it out here.
Russian and Ukrainian Bible Studies Available through LWML
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) continues to support missions and missionaries in Europe with a series of Bible studies translated into Russian and Ukrainian. The Bible studies, written by well-known author Donna Snow, were originally published by the LWML in English. With grants from several districts, and in cooperation with the WORDrus Mission Society, eight multi-session Bible studies are now available to missionaries and individuals as free downloads from the LWML website, lwml.org.
The Bible studies have been doctrinally reviewed and are accurate translations that convey Lutheran biblical teaching and doctrine.
“Our Hope and Future,” based on Jeremiah 29:11–12, presents the question, “Are you concerned about the future?” Discover God’s plans for a life of hope, faith, and support in Him.
“Love’s Priceless Gift” recounts God’s pursuit of us in love from John 3:16. This study offers incredible insight and fresh clarity into one of the most well-loved passages in all of Scripture.
“Unveiled Faces” delves into 2 Corinthians 3:17–18 to help us discover that just as oxygen gives life to our body, so the Spirit gives life to our soul.
“Faith or Famine,” based on Hebrews 11:1–6, explores the Biblical principles of cultivating and maintaining a strong faith through the power of the Holy Spirit, so as believers, we can withstand any famine we might encounter.
“Facedown Worship” explores Who we worship, and our dedication to the worship of the Triune God in our day-to-day lives from Psalm 95:6–7.
“I Surrender!” This study of Psalm 139:23–24 helps us come to understand just how much we need God’s grace, mercy, and redemption that He so lovingly provides.
“One Extraordinary Night” lets us be transported to the shepherding fields near Bethlehem on the miraculous night that changed the world forever. Be inspired by this fresh look at the Christmas story in Luke 2.
“No Stranger in the Manger,” based on Matthew 2:2–11, leads us as we discover the wonder, miracle, and majesty of the Magi’s search — Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah and Savior.
The LWML is excited to offer these materials in Russian and Ukrainian, as well as in English, to those who will benefit from using them in their native languages of heart and soul. These and other Bible studies can be found at lwml.org.
Lutheran Women in Mission — The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) is an official auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. The LWML is the leading group for LCMS women where each woman is welcomed and encouraged to use her unique God-given gifts as she supports global missions and serves the Lord with gladness.
