LWML Leadership Meetings Scheduled
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Board of Directors (LWML BOD), the LWML Presidents Assembly, and the LWML Convention Planning Committee (CPC) are all meeting virtually next week, January 18–23, 2021. The CPC will meet at the beginning of the week to continue with plans for the 39th Biennial LWML Convention in Lexington, Kentucky, June 24–27, 2021. On Wednesday, the BOD will gather to complete planning and training for the next day’s Presidents Assembly meeting. Discussion topics were selected by the district presidents. The LWML Board of Directors will lead the training sessions. The BOD will wrap up the week with a final meeting after the Presidents Assembly on Friday. Please keep all the members and pastoral counselors in your prayers as they learn, plan, and work to bring glory to God in all they do.
LWML Mission Grant Committee Completes Recommendations
2019–2021 Mission Grant, Lights for Christ Scholarships — Divine Savior Lutheran Church, Zacapa, Guatemala.
The LWML Mission Grants Selection Committee met via Zoom January 5–8, 2021 to evaluate 65 completed mission grant proposals totaling over $5.5 million in fund requests. The committee spent time in prayer and evaluation, then invited LCMS mission representatives to answer questions and share information before the final evaluation and ranking. The selected mission grant proposals will be sent to the LWML Board of Directors (BOD) and the Presidents Assembly for their approval before appearing on the ballot for the 2021 LWML Convention in June. The committee: Chairman Leslie Colligan, Eden Keefe, Debbie Larson, Carmen Nagel, Beth Nagy, Rev. Brian Noack, Rev. Mitchel Schuessler, Sharon von Qualen, and Beth Weber, appreciated the prayers offered on their behalf during the selection process and request continued prayers as they write, review, and edit the summaries and WHEREAS statements for their presentation to the BOD and district presidents later this month.
LWML President Larson to Lead Session at
“Making Disciples for Life” Conference
Our ‘New’ Normal” is the title for the LCMS “Making Disciples for Life” virtual gathering, scheduled for Monday, January 11, 2021, through Thursday, January 14, 2021. Amid global pandemic, political unrest, and changing demographics, this gathering will ask the question, “What does all this mean for the church?” President Larson will speak on January 13, sharing how the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is meeting the challenges of continuing ministry during COVID-19.
This virtual gathering is an opportunity for laypeople, pastors, and church workers to discuss what is different and what is the same as we confess to the world the certainty found in the Gospel of Christ Jesus. The LWML will have prerecorded sections intermixed with the question and answer sessions. The gathering will feature live conference sessions nightly from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Central Standard Time). Mission Grant #21 Paid Through Generous Donors

By God’s grace, and through His faithful givers, Mission Grant #21: LCMS Deaconess Ministry – LCMS Office of International Mission has been paid for $39,523! This grant will provide educational and financial support to our partner churches who introduced deaconess training programs within their church bodies, such as the Philippines, Latvia, Liberia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and India.
