Mission Service Activity of the Month
June 2020: Men of God
June is the month we celebrate fathers. Since not all men are fathers, let’s take time to celebrate men in their roles as leaders in the family of Christ. Plan a special event at church to thank men for what they do. Prepare and serve a meal and present a short program. If gathering together is not possible, plan ways to deliver gifts of love to the men.
Ideas for Activities that Show Appreciation for Men in the Congregation
- Consider putting together goodies bags to drop off/deliver.
- Include a devotion like “Building Materials,” “Follow the Leader,” “God Raises Me Up,” or “Our Father’s Care” from the LWML website, www.lwml.org/program-helps-devotions.
- Other items might be home-baked treats, lip balm, handkerchiefs, playing cards, and other small items that fit the recipients.
- Embroider a simple cross in the corner of men’s handkerchiefs to give as gifts to the men in your church and in your life. Include a reminder that Christ is our Savior.
- Write and send cards of appreciation. Use the resource “Encouragement Notecards” or bookmarks from the “LWML Coloring Sets” on the LWML website, www.lwml.org/coloring-resources.
- Visit men from your congregation in area care centers.
- Schedule a week during which a meal is prepared and delivered to widowers in your congregation.
Gospel Focus
But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ (2 Corinthian 2:14-17).
Prayer as You Plan and Prepare
Gracious Heavenly Father, You have placed men as leaders in our churches. Help us to appreciate what they do to lead in Your ways. Guide us to prepare ways to celebrate the gift of faithful men. Help us see them through Your loving eyes. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Begin with prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that Your Holy Spirit direct and guide me as I mark these Bibles. May Your precious Word, found in these Bibles, provide comfort and hope to the people who receive them. In Your name we pray. Amen.
Use the PDF below for detailed instructions, and use the Word doc to print on address label stickers as needed.
Instructions for marking Bibles
Label sheet for marking Bibles (Word doc) Label sheets use smaller margins, so when you print this document you may be prompted by your computer to allow smaller margins or to feed the paper manually.

Mission Service Activity of the Month
May 2020: Women Blessing Women
May is the month we celebrate mothers. Since not all women are mothers, let’s take time to celebrate all women in their own special role: sister, co-worker, aunt, niece, cousin, mentor, or friend. Originally, we hoped to help you plan a spa day/mini retreat day at your church to bless women. However, if you are unable to meet as a group, you might individually make items for a gift basket to deliver at a future time.
Ideas for Gift Basket Items
- Bath salts for a relaxing bath or a foot soaking. Make bath salts in decorative jars. For one recipe click here.
- Sugar hand scrub can be made and placed in decorative jars. For a recipe, click here.
- Coloring pages can be included, for enjoyment and relaxation. Use the resource “Encouragement Notecards” or “Encouragement Bookmarks” from the LWML Coloring Sets on the LWML website lwml.org/coloring-resources. You might like to include a set of colored pencils.
- The devotion “Important Connections” can be downloaded from the LWML website lwml.org/program-helps-devotions for recipients to read and share.
If you can meet together:
- Use the resource sketch “What Gives a Woman Strength and Joy?” from the LWML website: lwml.org/program-helps-sketches.
- Bring in a massage therapist or an electric massager for neck and shoulder massages.
Gospel Focus
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
Prayer as You Plan and Prepare for a Group Event
Heavenly Father, You created women to be relational and nurturing. We thank You for the biblical female examples You have given to us: the leaders, the team members, the caretakers, the helpers, the healers, and the homemakers. We ask for Your guidance as we plan and prepare our celebration-of-women event. We are Your humble servants. Amen.

April 2020: Activities as We Stay-at-Home
Write and send notes of encouragement to church members and your church staff. As Holy Week and Easter approach, you may want to use the coloring notecards at www.lwml.org/coloring-resources. This is also a good time to include some Mustard Seed Devotions in your correspondence if you have a stash at home! Postage can be purchased online at www.usps.com.
If you normally purchase an Easter lily for your church’s chancel, consider having one delivered to a friend or family member from a local store making deliveries.
Take time to call a neighbor, friend, or family member and share words of encouragement. This connection means so much especially for those who live on their own or have family members who are essential workers.
Check with local nursing homes to see if they can use handmade fabric masks for their staff to wear as a measure of protection for the residents they serve. While we realize that the fabric masks are not surgical/medical grade and cannot be used as Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for health care workers, perhaps there are people in care facilities who can use them. Here are two patterns: Fabric Masks with Elastic and Fabric Masks with Fabric Ties.
