Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly
Summer 2018 "Overload"
Editor's Note
All good plans … can change.
As I waited for articles to arrive for the Summer LWQ the staff had mapped out last year, instead came a stream of stories we had intended to feature in the fall. Time to let Features Editor Becky Wehrspann know we would be changing course. Becky shares the rest of the story.

Nothing we do is by circumstance or happenstance. God directs all things, according to His will, and something as insignificant as attendance at a rally proved to have everlasting benefits.
Zone rallies are always a highlight for me. I enjoy being in fellowship with my LWML sisters and brothers, the programs are inspiring, the music and Bible studies feed my soul, and the food is usually not too bad, either! Our recent Westgate Zone Spring Rally was no exception. It fell on a day with many other events on our family calendar, but I carved out a few hours in the morning to attend. I knew the speaker — Chaplain Randolph McHone — so I didn’t want to miss it.
Little did I know that my attendance there would be a catalyst for other events in the next 10 days to help shape this issue of the LWQ. Not only did Chaplain McHone speak about a program very near and dear to his heart — Operation Barnabas — but I also got to meet Carol Heckman, and through Chaplain McHone, I met Chaplains Hokana and Muehler by phone. These two men work together in the Ministry to the Armed Forces for The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
It is an honor to share the work of Operation Barnabas with you in this LWQ. I would encourage you to read Carol’s story, meditate and pray over the Bible study written by Chaplain Hokana, and be inspired by the Grants at Work article by Chaplain Muehler.
God orchestrated this issue, just like every other one that goes to print.
