About This Mission Grant

A Place of Refuge (APOR) is a sanctity of life ministry that positively impacts the lives of unwed, homeless pregnant women and their preborn children. Both mom and baby are equally worthy of Jesus’ love, as He commands their safety and protection, which motivates APOR to offer valuable services.

Women can reside at the Refuge House for their entire pregnancy and up to a year following the birth of the child. APOR teaches life and parenting skills.

The women attend worship at a local LCMS congregation every Sunday. The current staff is teaching the Catechism to the moms. The Holy Spirit has brought many moms and babies to the baptismal font.

This grant will fund the purchase of a new van for transportation to church, Bible studies, doctors’ appointments, and grocery shopping, plus a set of five parental skill books to be gifted to each new mom.

Joann Fairchild, volunteer advocacy coordinator, is organizing the baby items to go in the baskets. Hats off to her as she has been serving for the past 30 years! Believe it or not, Joann is 91 years old at the time of this picture. She has a heart of gold. Linda Haas is our other coordinator-in-chief. She personally delivers the layettes to the mothers. Some neighborhoods are not safe. God helps! He provides!

Van with Seven-Seater for Moms and Babies Transportation - Nissan 2024. All safety and Protection. (We do have a van which was purchased few years ago by LWML SWD grant. Its getting old. Two women with vase of flowers

Former House Manager Welcoming the First Mom at RH after Renovations. Our house was full from March until July with four mothers. Now, we have one. Two moms had to leave due to mental health issues. One joined her family. By end of October 2024, the house is able to have all rooms occupied. The house manager in the picture resigned. Lord Jesus blessed us. He guided the Board and Executive Director in extending a call to a new graduate of Director of Church Ministries. She accepted!
